Overview:
USCIS announced the exemption of the biometric services fee as part of the application requirements for Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status, beginning on October 1, 2023.
Updates and Highlights:
- Beginning Oct. 1, USCIS exempted the $85 biometric services fee as part of the application process for Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status.
- Applicants who filed Form I-539 prior to Oct. 1 will still be scheduled for an ASC appointment and should still attend.
- We expect that in most cases applicants will not be scheduled to attend a biometric services appointment. If USCIS determines that biometrics are required, the applicant will receive a notice with information about appearing for their biometric services appointment.
